🚀 Introducing AsyncAPI Hub beta version

View this email in your browser AsyncAPI Hub During the AsyncAPI Online Conference, Fran, in his presentation about Past, Present, and Future of AsyncAPI, showed the new version of the playground he worked on. We heard your feedback that the current playground is pretty limited and it is missing simple functionalities, like storing multiple specification files. AsyncAPI Hub is how we want to address your feedback. You can try it out by asking for early access at https://hub.asyncapi.io/. We are super interested with what you think, what features you would like to get there, what you don’t like and what would make you happy. Project Status Update Modification in community meeting time zone During the last meeting we decided that we will now shift the time of the meeting. Next meeting is APAC friendly and starts next Tuesday at 8AM UTC. Later, we met again at 4PM UTC. To not get lost in those time shifts, we recommend to add your email to this mailing list to always receive the most up to date invitation to the meeting. New features We are getting closer and closer into the first major release of our most important components, the parser and the generator. Parser: API docs and tests clearly indicate that schema type can be not just a string but also an array of strings. It supports deprecated attribute now. Generator: Templates compatibility with the generator. We added support for a new attribute in the template config file. It is called generator and should be used to indicate with semver notation what is the version of the generator that your template is compatible with. Have a look at how one of the templates uses it, html-template. This means that if you use a generator version that is not supported by the template, the generation fails with proper information about missing compatibility. Filters reusability - Breaking Change. We improved the way you write template filters. You now provide them as simple functions that are also much easier to test. This is a breaking change. AsyncAPI provided templates are already compatible. In case of your custom templates, check out migration guide from this PR. We provided a library of reusable filters called generator-filters. It exposes some custom filters and also all lodash functions that you can use as filters directly in your templates. You can provide your own libraries if you need. Generator supports a new template config attribute called filters that accepts a list of modules with functions that should be registered as filters. Have a look on how to provide such a list of filters looking at one of our templates, html-template. Add @asyncapi/generator-filters to your dependencies, wire it with generator in your template config file and use all the reusable filters to not repeat yourself in your template. Support for hooks before generation starts Now you can write hooks that are not only triggered after the generation but also before generation, generate:before. Check out the docs to see an example. AsyncAPI Special Interest Group (SIG) open meeting Last Meeting The last SIG meeting took place on the 28th of April. We talked about the latest features introduced to the generator that are also breaking changes. We also discussed a scope of the 1.0 release We opened our draft version of the contributor guide for anyone to review. Please have a look, suggest what is missing so we can improve, as after all this is a document that is supposed to help you and not us. We discussed how we can coordinate and support adoption of AsyncAPI in different companies. Emmelyn Wang created a dedicated #adoption slack channel. You might want to join it.
