# **#BlinkTank: Agentic Storefronts is live - Shopify flips the switch**

Hi everyone,

There's obviously one massive story this week - Shopify has pushed Agentic Storefronts live, and we understand this is going to generate a huge amount of interest.

This is something we have been preparing for over a long period. As a note to our clients and partners, we will be publishing more detailed updates over the next few days regarding what we are seeing and our recommended approach.

With that in mind, let’s get into the detail.

### Shopify Agentic Storefronts is now live

Shopify announced it would be sending its agentic commerce feature live before the end of the month, and it has kept its word. It feels like we have been talking about this forever, but it has only been about a year since the original news broke that Shopify was working on an integration with ChatGPT. So much has changed since then - and it is finally here.

According to Shopify, this is now enabled for everyone. However, we are still seeing a few stores where the switch has not been flipped yet. For most, you can find it in the Sales Channel section of your settings. It is managed via the [Shopify Product Catalog](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/promoting-marketing/seo/shopify-catalog) - which is where the (currently very limited) mapping happens.

As new as this all seems right now, this is very much a continuation of the strategy we have discussed for a long time. Get the basics right - make sure your product data and taxonomy are as good as possible.

### Google March 2026 Spam Update

To coincide with the rise in AI-driven discovery, Google has released its March 2026 Spam Update. This specifically targets scaled content abuse - where AI is used to churn out low-quality pages to game rankings. It also tightens rules on site reputation abuse and the use of expired domains.

For some time, we have seen pages full of AI-generated content perform quite badly, particularly below-fold and FAQ content that is obviously just AI filler. We are expecting to see some bigger impacts on this. As the web gets noisier, Google is getting more aggressive about filtering out the filler to keep high intent commerce results visible.

### Shopify filter identifiers

Shopify rolled out a change to filter URLs last week that affects anyone using grouped filters. The platform is moving away from text values in URLs for groups like colour or size, and is instead using stable identifiers called GIDs.

This has a practical side effect for marketing. If you have manual links in ads, emails, or on-site banners pointing to these grouped filters, they might be broken. When these links fail, they do not show an error, they just load the collection without any filters applied.

If you are paying for traffic to a specific view and they land on a general collection, you lose relevance, leading to higher bounce rates and wasted spend.

To fix this, you need to re-apply the filters and copy the new URL, which will contain a string like "gid://shopify/FilterSettingGroup".

### Google Merchant Center out of stock rules

Google has tightened the rules on how out of stock products are handled on-site. You can no longer simply hide your Add to Cart button when inventory hits zero. The button must remain visible on the page but in a disabled or inactive state.

Many Shopify themes are hard-coded to hide the button entirely for sold out items. Google needs to see that purchase trigger to verify the product entity. If the crawler cannot find the expected layout, you risk your out of stock pages being suppressed or losing their place in the index. It is worth checking your theme logic this week to ensure you are not accidentally breaking your feed. If sold out currently means a hidden button, you need to update that to visible but disabled.

### Google patent for AI generated landing pages

A recently granted Google patent details how the search engine could replace a brand’s landing page with an AI-generated version that only the buyer sees. This would allow Google to reassemble your site’s data into a custom layout tailored to a specific individual.

If any dev agencies out there are reading this and are worried about the future, in our view this isn't the end of the website as described in the article below. Instead, it's very much the latest step on a road towards the end of static design.

This means a move towards design pattern thinking, where your site is a repository of data and components for AI to reassemble. If your product data and site structure are not clean, the AI version of your brand will be a mess.

### Network shout-out: OriginalVoices

I'm repeating a shout out here mainly because I genuinely believe [David Dobrin](https://www.linkedin.com/in/dobrindavid/) is building one of the most interesting and useful tools I've seen for a long time.

We’ve recently been lucky enough to be part of a trial programme with [**OriginalVoices**](https://www.originalvoices.ai/), and it’s a product we’re finding absolutely fascinating.

As we’ve said so many times, AI is a race to averageness, and the quality of the input is everything. What Original Voices does is provide a "human intelligence layer" for your workflows.

It lets you query Digital Twins of real people-owned, trained, and managed by the individuals they represent - and feed those insights directly into your prompts. We’ve found it incredibly useful for content research, ad copy generation, and refining brand messaging. It's incredibly powerful, and the product looks like it's just going to get better and better
