# **Shopify Editions, Agentic Storefronts & a new Google Core Update**

We are deep in the final stretch now. This is the last full week before Christmas, so I hope everyone is managing the chaos and finding some time to breathe. We are nearly at the finish line.

Despite the time of year, the news hasn't slowed down, however.

### **Winter Editions - our thoughts so far**

The big new is obviously Shopify’s Winter Editions announcement. For us, the headline feature was [**Agentic Storefronts**](https://www.shopify.com/news/winter-26-edition-agentic-storefronts) - which, Shopify says, allows stores to "instantly and accurately get discovered on AI platforms". In practice, this looks to be a set of customisable fields that send data directly to ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot, etc.

While the feature is not live yet, for us at Blink this feels like a significant moment of convergence. We have spent years obsessing over site architecture and deep taxonomy - often in a market that was still prioritising basic keyword optimisation. This announcement effectively cements that granular, structured data is no longer just a "nice-to-have" for filtering - it is the prerequisite for the next generation of search.

Shopify is signalling a hard shift away from simple matching and towards *context*. The platform is gearing up for a world where AI agents don't just find products based on labels, but "understand" them based on their attributes.

If your data isn't structured to answer those contextual questions, you won't just be poorly filtered - you will be invisible.

That said, we need to be realistic about the current state of play. In our testing, features like Sidekick are still struggling with the execution gap - the "last mile" between understanding a request and delivering a perfect result. But the direction of travel is undeniable.

I’ve written a full breakdown of what this means for your strategy - and recorded a video walk-through for those who prefer to watch.

### **December Google Core Update**

Google has confirmed it is rolling out another core update to close out the year.

So far, we haven't spotted any clear, sweeping trends across the merchant stores we work with. There has been a little fluctuation, but nothing drastic. It seems the sites most heavily affected right now are in the content and affiliate space rather than direct-to-consumer eCommerce.

We will continue to watch this carefully as it rolls out.

On a related note, if you want to stay on top of this automatically, [Macalytics](https://apps.shopify.com/macalytics-seo) now features a notification system that alerts you directly in your dashboard when Google confirms an update.

### **Talking taxonomy with Matt Edmundson**

I was recently a guest on the *eCommerce Podcast* for a really enjoyable chat with Matt Edmundson.

In what will be a surprise to very few of you, we spent the time discussing site structure, taxonomy, and the critical importance of product data. Matt is a lovely guy and it was a great conversation to be a part of.

### **AI discovery fundamentals**

We were also super happy to contribute to a new piece by our long-term partners at ITQ.

While the article is published for their audience in the Iberian market, the principles we discuss are universal. It covers the fundamentals of AI-driven discovery, why structured content matters, and how these shifts are playing out regionally.

### **Massive upgrades to bulk imports**

Finally, away from the AI headlines, Shopify released a technical update that will make a huge difference to anyone managing extremely large catalogues: the Bulk Operations API has been significantly upgraded.

If you have ever had to migrate a massive catalogue or sync millions of records, you know that process has historically been fragile. This update brings support for concurrent bulk jobs and much larger file sizes.

It sounds dry, but in practice it means we can move away from fragile import scripts and build robust, predictable data pipelines. It transforms scalability from a feature into a reliable foundation - which is a huge win for enterprise builds.

Hang in there for this final push. I hope you all get a well-deserved break very soon.

All the best,

Sam
