# You can't grow from here if you don't know what 'here' is

Hey Reader,

I need to share something with you.

I'm growing right now. Like, actually growing. New clients, more projects, freelancers joining my team to help with various things.

It's amazing. I'm genuinely so appreciative of all these new clients and the trust you're placing in me.

But here's what's also true: to keep this sustainable, to best help my clients, to know what the next steps should be... I need to actually understand what's happening.

Not just celebrate the growth, but investigate it.

What's actually working? Why is it working? What patterns am I missing because I'm too busy being IN it to see clearly?

## It's not about growth, it's about direction

Right now, for me, the question is about sustainable growth. But for you? It might be completely different.

- Maybe you don't want to grow. Maybe you want to work less hours while maintaining revenue.
- Maybe you want to find the leaks, where time and energy are draining away for little return.
- Maybe you want to shift direction entirely. Different offers, different audience, different way of working.
- Maybe you just want to understand why some things feel easy and others feel like pushing a boulder uphill.

The point isn't growth. The point is understanding where you actually are, so you can make informed decisions about where you want to go.

## It's not (just) about revenue

When I say "understand where you are," I don't mean your revenue total or client count.

Those are outcomes. They're useful, but they don't tell you the story of how you got them.

Understanding where you are means knowing:

- Which offer and audience combinations actually work for you (and which drain your energy for little return)
- How people actually find you and decide to buy (not how you think they should, but how they really do)
- What resources you have, what's missing, and what you're wasting
- Where the bottlenecks are in your business
- Which parts feel easy and which feel like swimming upstream

It means understanding your patterns, not just your numbers.

Because here's the thing: if you don't know WHY something's working, you can't do more of it intentionally. And if you don't know WHY something's not working, you'll keep doing it anyway.

## You already have the tool for this

This is exactly why I created Business Detective, and why I'm going through it myself right now.

Since you already have the course, now's the perfect time to use it. It's designed to help you investigate your business so you actually understand what's happening. The patterns you're too close to see. The connections between your offers, audience, channels, and resources.

When you understand where you are, you can make real decisions about where you want to go next. Whether that's growth, sustainability, working less, or something else entirely.

Perfect timing to work through it before you start making your 2026 plans. Remember, after the first two modules, you can investigate in whatever order makes sense for YOUR business.
