This morning I walked up to 59th and Columbus Subway
station and took the 1 down to Penn Station. I have done
this trip a number of times over the last year, but
instead of heading south on the Acela, I am heading north
on the Maple Leaf to Toronto, Canada. Almost every month
over the last year I headed to Pennsylvania to work on my
startup, but this trip I'm heading a different
direction to work on my own business.
It reveals for me another way in which I tend to give to
much to others. During one year, my partner came to New
York to work with me once, where I went down monthly, and
even more than once in a month, to work with him. Being
reminded that I give too much is nothing new. It is who I
am. It is how I approach everything I do. I just tend to
forget to check in on things while I am in the moment to
fight for balance with whoever I am partnering with. This
round, I have all my partners in check, and doing regular
repeated checks to make sure I'm not giving to much.

When we doing our evening fart walk along the Hudson River
in the evenings we make our way up the Riverside Park for
about 45 minutes and then we turn around and head down
Riverside Avenue for another 45 minutes until we make it
back home. On the last leg of our journey we wind through
some tall glass residential complexes on the West End, and
in one of the courtyards is a wide open turf grass field,
fountain, chairs, tables, and restaurants. Along one end
is a small "stream" running along the walk way.
It is about 3 inches deep and Poppy insists on walking the
length of it. She thinks she is being clever or cool doing
it because she usually looks up at Audrey and kind of
smiles deviously. This time, I caught a picture of Audrey
walking her the length of the stream on the way home.

On Friday I had a client in Brooklyn who wanted to get
together for coffee. I offered to ride my bike over as it
was. trip I've wanted to do for sometime. I told her
I needed a placed where I could bring my dog because I
couldn't go bike riding without her or she'd
kill me. So around 8:30 AM we headed through mid and
downtown Manhattan and made our way across the Brooklyn
Bridge into Brooklyn, heading for South Park Slope. We had
coffee with the CEO of Pandium for about an hour, and then
made our way back through Brooklyn, across the bridge, and
up through very busy downtown and midtown. We were both
pooped. It was a seriously long ride, and Poppy and I had
to take it easy for the rest of the day.

This Sunday after leaving Central Park after two loops we
were heading down 7th Avenue through Time Square and then
looped back up on 38th Street over to 6th Avenue, which
was closed off for a street fair. As we were heading up
6th Avenue, Poppy started nudging my leg and rocking her
sidecar to let me know there was a Mexican barbecue stand
coming up. We pulled in and ordered our usual pork skewer
and street corn. She sure loves it. It has become a
regular ritual, and she usually ends up with a line of
people taking her picture as she gnaws on the corn cob
with her teeth. I didn't even get any corn this time
as it makes me so happy to see her doing her thing.

I wrote about the black cars being at the top and the
bottom of the NYC experience this week.
They are the worst vehicles in a city of awful vehicles.
While riding my bike you can expect rudeness from most
cars, but the black cars are down right dangerous in every
way. THey just don't car about pedestrians or
cyclists. I think it is easy for the NYC taxicab to have
such a reputation, but in my experience, it doesn't
come close to match the notorious nature of the black SUVs
roaming the city.

cannot get rid of entirely. Something no longer
wanted, but still needed." - N.K. Jemisin, The

I was captivated by this painting by Tang Yaw Hoong called
Light Painter. I am perpetually captivated by street
lights. How they illuminate. How they make us feel safer.
How they only shine on the immediate area and leave
shadows beyond. There are different colors and
brightnesses to the street lamp, depending on the city.
I've been enjoying them in the evenings during our
fart walks as we slowly fade into fall and the days are
getting shorter.

My days are spent trying to make sense of the web today.
The web is more chaotic, noisy, and generated than it has
ever been. I get upwards of 50K visits across my sites
each day, yet only about 16% of thesse visitors are human.
Most of my content is sucked up and used in Large Language
Models (LLMs), the majority of it unattributed. So what
does this mean? It isn't like the good old search
engine optimization days. Not that those days were any
realer than they are today. Honestly I thrive on
uncerntainty, and making sense of noise. I don't have
all the answers but I am working towards a working
understanding. I just need to find the stories that
resonate with people who will pay me enough money to
survive.

My kiddo turned 26 yesterday. I've stopped publishing
my usual picture of me holding her as a baby. She's
all grown up now. I've progressed past the
"I've made it phase", and thoroughly
enjoying her finding her place in the world. Super proud
of her. Super proud of myself for helping get her to this
point. It warms my heart to see her working on her
masters, working multiple jobs, and making a life out in
Washington. 2026, what a year. What a year. Thank you.
If a man does not keep pace with his companions,
perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let
him step to the music which he hears, however measured
or far away. - Henry David Thoreau
