# A Week of Being Kin Lane - August 18th, 2025

I had Covid all week. It sucked. It didn’t leave time and energy for much in my week. Covid is a fascinating consequence of being alive today. During the week I just laid on the couch and slept, listened to music, and drifted off in feverish thought. I am mostly back to normal now, but it left quite void in my week for me to chronicle here on my newsletter.

To sum it up, I’d say I was having [J.J. Grandville visions and dreams](https://publicdomainreview.org/essay/grandville-visions-and-dreams/) all week. My head started out the week thinking about the technology and the business of integrations. It is what I do. I am in the business of building bridges between the engineering and product groups within enterprises, and then I slammed into a covid wall of fever and fog.

**A Bridge Leads from One World to the Next*, from *Another World*, 1844*

I love thinking about big systems. I have to admit I kind of like thinking about big systems with a fever. Just laying on the couch, listening to Jazz, and thinking about complex Web systems in a feverish way. It soothed my brain to lay there. I know it sounds weird, but it was a nice vacation. It was a cheap vacation, and one I should be better prepared for, and get my booster shots regularly.

While feverish on the couch I did spend some time on the Bluesky, drinking from the social firehose of the current times. It left me thinking about what I would like my agenda to be when I am President. When I look out across the Bluesky version of the world right now I can see pretty clearly where I’d start in the first days of my administration as President of the United States.

By Friday night, the Covid cloud began to lift, and by Saturday morning I was ready for a bike ride with Poppy. Luckily is was another Summer Streets, and we rode up past 190th to Broadway & Dyckman. We are on 57th, so up past 190th and back is quite a ride. We came home and napped on the couch. It felt good to be back on the bike, and through the Covid fog.

I am looking forward to getting back to work this week. I will be heading down to Philadelphia for a workshop with my partner. I am going to go get a haircut in the morning and it should help me feel better, and move beyond this lost week. I made a lot of progress on work in my head, but I need to get back to applying it in ways that I can help shape the direction we take with my startup Naftiko this fall, and into the new year.
