I decided to start going to the gym in our building this last week. I did about 6 miles on the indoor bike and played around on a few of the lifty machiney thingys. No resolutions, commitments, or plan (I know). I am just looking to inject new behavior into my day and take advantage of the repetition of my days to get my heart rate up. I figured I’d already made a commitment to living past 30, I can do the same for 60. I am also just looking to outlive and pester (love on) Audrey. Not outrun, just outlive maybe by a day or two. She’s already had one husband die, seems shitty for me to do that to her again.
A post I wrote last week about my career inspired an also inspiring story from Maren Deepwell. I love hearing her journey and how she’s owning her narrative—after reading her post I feel inspired to write more about my career and the Venn diagram of curiosity, create, and contributing.
I was playing around in the dictionary this week, exploring the differences between knowledge, information, content, and intelligence. It is an important time to be skeptical of anything labeled as intelligence, while also ferociously defending our knowledge. Information and content are always suspect and noisy as hell, but I find are still worth developing approaches to finding and sending signals amidst noise.
The threat of how the word intelligence has been weaponized can be seen in how our military, NASA, NIH and other federal agencies are using artificial intelligence to filter and censor black and brown people, and women from the world. Screw this timeline. I can’t believe this is real, and people think things are still normal. I know that none of these things are new, but the levels at which white people are just letting this all happen while still trying to convince everyone we aren’t racist is absolutely stunning.
Working through some thoughts triggered during the daily processing the harassment I receive from my stalker, I was thinking more about how us men see programming and not much else in the world, considering how men worship technology while becoming desensitized to all things human. It is a condition I have experienced and suffered from, but thankfully I ended up taking an alternate path about a decade or so back.
As I make my way back into the gym, I was thinking about my Gymie, and how nice it would be to just have someone on the inside. And as I work through various ways of helping the audience for API Evangelist see the intellectual property they are freely giving away, I spent some writing about how a fictional family had their designs stolen a couple of hundred years go.
Audrey and I spent some time this weekend exploring what our next move might be, even possibly leaving this country. All discussions seem to just come back to how much we love New York City, and there really isn’t anywhere else we feel intellectually nourished, physically safe, with our stomachs and brains as well fed, other than this beautifully diverse place.
