# 3 days into vacation and… nothing? 💩 How to poop while traveling

Hola { subscriber.first_name }}

Let's talk about something nobody puts on the vacation itinerary:

Pooping.

You arrive somewhere new, eat different food, sleep at odd hours, and spend half the day folded into a plane or a car. Then your gut decides it's no longer loading.

Travel constipation is common. Your routine disappears, you drink less water, you move less, and you may be avoiding unfamiliar bathrooms. Stress and bad sleep slow things down, too.

Here's the bright side. A little planning keeps things moving. We don't need the BS of cleanses or reset teas. And we don't have to give up the foods we love.

Here's the plan.

### **Before you leave**

If you tend to get constipated when traveling, don't wait until day four of the trip to address it. Start one or two days *before* you go:

- Drink fluids regularly.
- Keep eating your usual amount of fiber.
- Pack easy fiber to bring with you: oats, chia, prunes, fruit, or your usual fiber supplement.
- Consider packing a travel-size constipation treatment that's worked for you before.

Options may include polyethylene glycol, a stool softener, or magnesium oxide. Check with your healthcare provider or pharmacist when choosing a product, especially if you have a medical condition or take other medications.

### **Keep your morning routine**

Your gut loves patterns. Try to use the bathroom around your usual time each day, even when the time zone changes. Sitting down after breakfast helps because eating naturally tells your colon to get to work.

Coffee or Hot tea can help, too, if your morning café or hot tea usually gets things moving. Drink it in the morning, not late in the day when it can mess with your sleep.

Most important: don't ignore the urge to go. Holding it because the bathroom is unfamiliar, inconvenient, or slightly terrifying only makes constipation worse.

### **Pro tip: Use the travel squat**

Your position on the toilet matters more than you'd think. Put your feet on a small stool so your knees sit above your hips. No stool in the hotel bathroom? A sturdy, upside-down trash can works. Your suitcase, too.

This gets you closer to a squat, which makes stool easier to pass.

Just make sure your improvised footrest is stable. A vacation bathroom injury is not the kind of movement we're going for.

### **Feed and move your gut**

Vacation food is part of the fun: más pan, the restaurant meals, the drinks, the snacks. But switching everything at once can confuse your digestive system. Ease into new foods, and keep some familiar fiber in your day.

A few more small ones:

- Drink water regularly, especially on flights and in hot weather.
- Walk, stretch, swim, or do a quick hotel-room workout.
- On long flights or drives, stand and move when you can.
- Go easy on excess alcohol and low-fiber processed snacks.
- Keep your sleep as steady as you reasonably can.

Probiotics may help some people, especially when your diet changes a lot — but they're not a guaranteed quick fix.

### **Your simple travel-poop plan**

Each morning:

- Drink something hot.
- Eat some fiber.
- Move your body.
- Sit on the toilet.
- Put your feet up.

Your vacation doesn't need a perfect schedule. But your gut would appreciate at least a loose one.

**P.S.** — The one thing most people skip: start early. A day or two before you leave, get your water and fiber up so your gut's already in rhythm before the trip breaks it. 🌱
