# How to run MacOS in a VM On windows

## Preamble (feel free to skip)

So, Lightroom has a bug that if you export smart previews from a Mac and then try to use said smart previews in Windows, they only show in the Develop panel one-by-one and not in the filmstrip. The workaround is to first open up said catalog on a Mac, then re-send it to Windows. Why that is, IDK, and my clients are not savvy enough to deal with this, nor do they have time to figure it out.

I was playing around with a 2015 MBP with OCLP for the past few weeks, but a couple of days ago, it seems to have soft-bricked itself and needs a reinstall.

So, I spent a few hours trying to find a way to get a Mac VM, which is apparently **stupidly difficult**. Eventually, on YouTube, I found that you can use this [patch](https://github.com/paolo-projects/auto-unlocker)for VMware that allows you to install macOS into a VM.

## Instructions

It works as intended.

1. [Download VMware](https://www.mikeroysoft.com/post/download-fusion-ws/) (also needlessly difficult)
2. Download the [patch](https://github.com/paolo-projects/auto-unlocker) and install it, yes it still works on 17
3. Download a macOS ISO either on a Mac or here is a [direct download](https://www.mediafire.com/file/4fcx0aeoehmbnmp/macOS+Monterey+by+Techrechard.com.iso/file)
4. Install it now that you have a Macos Option in Vmware

Hardware acceleration seems non-existent. You can probably work it out with Clover, OCLP, and kexts, but I have no need for it to run well. If you do find a good way to get GPU acceleration, feel free to contact me, and I will update the article.
