# Incompetent It Technicians

I don’t claim to be the worlds greatest technician. I claim to be competent. Unfortunately the average technician I run into *is* incompetent. Wondering if other IT people reading this have the same experience or if it’s specific to where I live.

My friend reached out to me about his computer, he said someone told him there might be a virus. He brings me the computer, it’s a Chromebook.

It’s a fucking Chromebook, a technician told him he has a virus. Did I mention it’s a fucking Chromebook. (I am aware that you can theoretically get a virus on a Chromebook, the point was the next sentence …)

It was a touchscreen Chromebook and the touchscreen was broken, leading to the mouse randomly jumping. We [disabled the touchscreen](https://community.acer.com/en/kb/articles/11243-disable-touchscreen-functionality-on-acer-chromebooks) and the “virus” disappeared.

Did I mention it was a fucking Chromebook yet?

It’s one thing to get something wrong it’s another thing to not even have the most minimal understanding of computer operating systems and run a computer repair shop/ call yourself a technician. Just a bare minimum of competence would be nice.
