Every computer has places where things disappear without truly disappearing—archives, hidden folders, caches, trash bins waiting to be emptied. That makes your digital environment perfect for banishment magick. Create a folder somewhere on your computer called something innocuous but meaningful to you: NULL, VOID, 404, Archive of the Dead, whatever makes your witchy little heart happy. This becomes a digital liminal space: not quite deleted, not quite present. When there is something you want removed from your life—a habit, resentment, fear, person’s influence, old identity—write it into a plain text file. Be brutally specific. Then drag that file into the Ghost Folder and say: “You no longer execute in my reality.”
Here is where the technomancy gets interesting: do not delete the file immediately. Let it sit there while your life reorganizes around its absence. In computing, deleting something often means removing the system’s ability to reference it before the underlying data is actually overwritten. Magically, I love that metaphor. You are not pretending the past never happened; you are revoking its permissions. Once you genuinely notice that the thing has lost its emotional or practical grip on you, permanently delete the file and empty the trash. The final deletion becomes the closing ritual. No candles required. No dramatic altar setup. Just you, a machine, and one extremely satisfying little click.
That is technomancy at its best: taking the architecture we already live inside and turning it into magical language. Computers understand permissions, execution, storage, corruption, termination and access. Frankly, so does witchcraft. The machine does not need to be sacred before you begin. You make it sacred by deciding that its actions mean something.
