It’s been a while since I last posted. I’m not sure why. I have a lot of things to do. I’m working on an advertisement for my editing services, and I might update my editing website. I need to improve my Obsidian workflow and daily task management; my current system isn’t working well. I have a half-baked solution, but I lack note rollover and good organization. I’m also teaching myself video editing in DaVinci Resolve, using their training courses. Thoughts and opinions are

I was reading an article this morning from The New Oil about how scams are evolving and how to avoid them. Inside the article, he writes, “as another interesting note, while people ages 34 to 44 tend to get scammed more often, people ages 18 to 24 tend to lose more in scams. This counters the idea that only tech illiterate old people fall for scams or that you can be too poor to be targeted.” I would argue that the 34 to 44 range is the more interesting data point because I don’t believe th

I don’t usually spam out blog posts when the news hits about things, but I am making an exception here as I found this super exciting. Framework, for those of you who don’t know, is the computer company that makes repairable and truly upgradeable products. Framework announced three new products. One of them is just an update to the Framework 13 mainboard which is cool in the sense that they are keeping up with their vision but not so cool otherwise. PTM 7950 as a thermal paste replacement

A few different things all came together to write this post today. My Kindle’s battery died. The Kindle hubbub (though not relevant). A failure to find a self-hosted Instapaper alternative. And Juan’s article—Tools That Just Work. A bit of context, my everyday workflow for reading, as mentioned in my RSS article, is as follows: “My setup for reading is FreshRSS instance on my Raspberry Pi. I read articles on my phone using Focus Reader hooked into said instance. Save articles I wa

Been a wild couple of weeks. Was having stability issues with my PC. Spent hours going in circles for a Notion+Obsidian alternative. Moved CRM’s for my editing business and drinking way too much coffee. PC Stability Issues I was having tons of memory issues in Battlefield 2042, and then started getting more weird BSODs in Windows itself. (Unironically Battlefield 2042 may be the best non-memory test, memory test). After some diagnostics, it was two separate things: one of my RAM

I don’t claim to be the worlds greatest technician. I claim to be competent. Unfortunately the average technician I run into is incompetent. Wondering if other IT people reading this have the same experience or if it’s specific to where I live. My friend reached out to me about his computer, he said someone told him there might be a virus. He brings me the computer, it’s a Chromebook. It’s a fucking Chromebook, a technician told him he has a virus. Did I mention it’s a fucking Chromebook.

For years, I have been recommending Honey. I was under the impression they were tracking your web and purchasing behavior and selling it for advertising. Which, for me, was a fine tradeoff, as most people are already being tracked, and at least now they got something useful. Well, it turns out, as you’re probably already aware, they were stealing affiliate links, as well as providing the ability for stores to pay them to hide coupons—mafioso style. (To be clear, we have no idea if they

Yes another 2025 post to spam your feed with . I split this and the previous post up as it was too overwhelming as one giant post. Some things I would like to post more about: * Self Hosting/My Homelab * Interacting more with the Indie/Smol web community with things like response posts or trending post types * Miyoo mini and retro handhelds in general * Tracking books I read and games I play * Video? – I may experiment more with YouTube stuff * Windows utilities and ho

It’s been a pretty good year for the blog, and I’ve implemented some stepping stones for a better year in 2025. In terms of writing I took on the 100 days to offload. I didn’t even get close, but I did end up writing way way more than last year. My writing grammar and spelling have improved significantly and they also got an extra buff from my wife proofreading everything. I still had a hard time sitting down and writing things, often being intimidated by everything I want

Is there some technical reason that this isn’t built in a feature to android? Why is it either a cell providers POC app (usually with a addon to your bill) or just not there? Actually drives me mad. And if you know of an app or service that I have missed please let me know TIA. This is day 29 of #100DaysToOffload
